WASHINGTON, DC – [Pinpoint Policy Institute](/) today released [new polling](/__l5e/assets-v1/58190d3b-b9a6-428c-a44f-f053708cea18/National-Investments-Survey-Memo-01-27-25.pdf) conducted by Fabrizio Ward that shows Americans broadly support reforming 401(k) regulations to expand investment options to alternative assets like private equity. The national poll finds voters support this reform by a 57% – 13% margin, and it is even more popular among Trump voters, with a 71 – 8% margin.

The survey was conducted January 20-22 by national polling firm Fabrizio Ward. A memo outlining its results is available [here](/__l5e/assets-v1/58190d3b-b9a6-428c-a44f-f053708cea18/National-Investments-Survey-Memo-01-27-25.pdf). Topline findings include:

- Voters support reforming regulations to more easily allow workers the choice to invest in private equity funds through their 401(k) retirement plans by a 57% – 13% margin. This reform is even more popular among those with 401(k) plans (63% – 14%) and with Trump voters (71% – 8%).

- Notably, nearly two-thirds of voters (64%) say it’s unfair that private equity investments are only accessible to wealthy and institutional investors.

- While a plurality of voters support the federal government doing more to provide greater access for average 401(k) participants to be able to invest some of their funds into cryptocurrency (such as Bitcoin), Trump voters are more broadly supportive. The margin of support overall is +6, but among Trump voters it rises to +46 (63% – 17%).

“From inflation to the solvency of Social Security, American workers face a number of risks to their retirement security,” said Pinpoint Executive Director Gordon Gray. “Democratizing access to alternative assets for future retirees can help by providing increased diversification and stronger portfolios. Pinpoint’s survey shows strong and broad support for these reforms, particularly among the coalition that re-elected President Trump in 2024.”

Further, the poll found that voters approve of the job President Trump is doing to start his second administration by a 6-point margin, 47% – 41%.
