Last week, Pinpoint highlighted the importance of ensuring America’s continued leadership in medical research by fully funding the National Institutes of Health (NIH) – and in particular, the broad popularity of doing so in key swing states like North Carolina.

Tomorrow, as the government funding deadline approaches at the end of the month, group of some 400 medical research advocacy organizations – from the American Cancer Society to the University of Mississippi Medical Center – are coming together in one day of action to thank lawmakers for their longtime bipartisan support for NIH and to urge a robust increase for future medical research. The Rally for Medical Research ran a full-page ad this week in The Wall Street Journal highlighting the cause:

The ad highlights a new American Association of Cancer Research (AACR) poll showing 89% of Americans agree NIH needs strong support – numbers that match recent polling from North Carolina, where 65% of voters opposed large cuts to funding for biomedical research.

America can’t afford to fall behind here. Cuts to NIH could hand countries like China the lead in science and innovation. This isn’t just about lab coats, it’s about keeping America first in discoveries that save lives and fuel our economy.
